Residents of the nursing home
had a chance also to showcase their skills by joining the Orpheus
dancers and instructors. In addition Greek flags were distributed
to members of the audience commemorating the upcoming Greek Independence
Day.

A Greek dance workshop took place for members of the Unitarian Church of
Evanston.

The Orpheus family celebrated another successful
Vasilopita event.

Before dinner, under the direction of Orpheus choral instructor Eftihia
Papageorgiou, the adult group presented 3 songs and then the youth
members joined in singing the New Year carols.

The Orpheus junior music ensemble made its debut appearance at the
event.
The Orpheus junior group was formed in October of 2007 under the
direction of Eve Mozingo and George Lawer.

The surprise of the conference was the impromptu participation of
members of a dance group from the island of Halki, Greece.
Halki is a small island in Dodecanese close to the island of Rhodes.
Their instructor, Mihalis Perakis along with members of the group
demonstrated a couple of dances from the island, Sousta, Zervodexos and
Vlaha.

On Sunday the festivities continued commemorating Epiphany.
In front of St. Nicholas Church with the youngsters who will dive for
the Cross.
About 60 boys -- a third more than usual -- took
part in the cross dive this year. All had Greek ancestors and were 16 to
18 years old
