I
was born in 1973 in Kalamata, Messinia, a town rich with monuments and
history! After completing my basic studies, I concentrated on business
administration. Eventually, I became involved in the family business
which I am still involved with. I am married and have two children.My initiation / introduction to Greek dancing and, more broadly, to the Greek folk traditions began during my teenage years in 1986. This introduction served to influence my life’s choices and determine my future involvement in this field. My initial introduction to this area was a positive experience. The expression and fluidity of the dances and the music of the various regions of Greece moved me.
At 13 years old I became a member of the Lykeion Ton Ellinidon Kalamatas dance troupe. My instructor, Tasos Mihos, with his extensive knowledge and effective teaching methods, aided in further intensifying my love and adoration of the Greek folk traditions. I participated in a four month seminar sponsored by the European Union in 1992 dealing with theory / history / tradition / culture as it relates to the various folk dances of Greece. This seminar, taught by individuals extremely knowledgeable on this topic, played a decisive role in expanding and continuing my traditional identity.
In 1990, I visited Cyprus and subsequently Constantinople in 1991 performing with the Lykeion group. Future trips and performances with the dance group would include several visits to Italy and a performance in Ankara where the Lykeion was awarded first place in a competition. We travelled to Morocco, Ukraine in cooperation with the General Secretary of Greeks Abroad. We visited Alexandria, Egypt at the invitation of the Patriarch of Alexandria. In addition we visited the Czech Republic and Germany at the International Exposition of Tourism and later, to Sweden for a similar event. Other destinations include Luxemburg, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Austria and, naturally performances all over Greece, the most significant of those at the behest of Greek President Konstantinos Stefanopoulos and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew as well as a performance at the Athens Concert hall at the HEMELPA celebration.
In the Lykeion’s larger productions, in which my instructor, Tasos Mihos was involved, I was afforded the opportunity to become acquainted with the regional similarities of our folkloric culture. I also participated in the Closing Ceremonies at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 and in a CD that the Lykeion produced as a member of its choral group.
I have been a dance instructor for the Lykeion since 1994 and most recently have assumed responsibility for the dance troupe of the town of Finnikounda in Messinia. I have participated in countless folk dance seminars all over Greece which have advanced my knowledge of Greek folk traditions. I also enjoy participating in the musical aspect of Greek folk music via the clarinet and percussion instruments and have performed at several events in Greece and abroad.
Γεννήθηκα το 1973 στην Καλαμάτα Μεσσηνίας σε μια πόλη πλούσια σε μνημεία και ιστορία!
Μετά τις βασικές σπουδές μου ειδικεύτηκα στη διοίκηση επιχειρήσεων. Κατόπιν ασχολήθηκα σε οικογενειακή επιχείρηση , την οποία ακολούθησα μέχρι σήμερα ως ελεύθερος επαγγελματίας. Είμαι παντρεμένος και έχω δύο παιδιά!
Η μύηση- γνωριμία με τον Ελληνικό χορό και ευρύτερα με την Λαϊκή παράδοση έγινε στα πρώτα μου εφηβικά χρόνια το 1986. Αυτή η επαφή έμελλε να προσδιορίσει και να σημαδέψει τη ζωή μου. Η συγκίνηση μου με το πρώτο ξεκίνημα ήταν ενθουσιώδη. Τα κινητικά μοτίβα και οι μουσικές του κάθε τόπου με συνέπαιρναν.
Στα δεκατρία μου χρόνια γίνομαι μέλος της χορευτικής ομάδας του ΛΥΚΕΙΟΥ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΔΩΝ ΚΑΛΑΜΑΤΑΣ (Λ.Ε.Κ) Έχοντας ως Δάσκαλο τον Τάσο Μίχο με πολυετείς γνώσεις και μεθόδους διδασκαλίας αγάπησα και λάτρεψα την Ελληνική παράδοση. Ένα τετράμηνο σεμινάριο επιδοτούμενο από την Ε.Ε το έτος 1992 με θέμα :¨<< θεωρία -Ιστορία- Παράδοση – Πολιτισμός και με χορούς από όλη την Ελλάδα>>, όπου δίδαξαν άνθρωποι γνώστες του αντικειμένου , έπαιξε καθοριστικό ρόλο στη συνέχεια της παραδοσιακής μου ταυτότητας .
Το πρώτο μου ταξίδι έγινε στην Κύπρο το 1990! Ήταν πρόκληση για μένα τα ταξίδια .Στην συνέχεια ταξίδεψα στην Κωνσταντινούπολη το 1991 πάντα με το Λ.Ε.Κ , Ιταλία πολλές φορές και ιδιαίτερα στο Ακριτζέντο (Ακράγας) όπου το Λ.Ε.Κ τιμήθηκε με το πρώτο βραβείο.
Ταξίδεψα στο Μαρόκο , Ουκρανία σε συνεργασία με τη Γενική Γραμματεία Απόδημου Ελληνισμού, στην Αλεξάνδρεια με πρόσκληση του Πατριάρχη Αλεξανδρείας, στην Τσεχία , στη Γερμάνια όπου διοργανώθηκε η Διεθνής Έκθεση Τουρισμού, και λίγο αργότερα στην Σουηδία για τον ίδιο λόγο. Επίσης ακολούθησαν ταξίδια και σε άλλες μεγάλες χώρες όπως Λουξεμβούργο , Ισπάνια , Πορτογαλία , Ουγκαρία ,Αυστρία και φυσικά σε όλη την Ελλάδα με σημαντικότερες αυτές ενώπιον του προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας κ. Κωστή Στεφανόπουλου και του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχη Βαρθολομαίου, όπως και στο Μέγαρο Μουσικής Αθηνών στη μεγάλη γιορτή της HEMELPA
Στις μεγάλες παραγωγές του Λ.Ε.Κ τις οποίες επιμελήθηκε ο Δάσκαλος μου Τάσος Μίχος μου δόθηκε ευκαιρία να γνωρίσω τις θεματικές ενότητες του Λαϊκού μας πολιτισμού .Επίσης έλαβα μέρος στην Τελετή Λήξης των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων το 2004 στην Αθήνα, και στην έκδοση του CD του Λ.Ε.Κ ως μέλος της χορωδίας του.
Ως δάσκαλος στο χώρο του Λ.Ε.Κ διδάσκω από το 1994 και τελευταία έχω αναλάβει και το χορευτικό σύλλογο της Φοινικούντας Μεσσηνίας.
Εχω παρακολουθήσει πλήθος σεμιναρίων και δρώμενων σε όλη την Ελλάδα αποκτώντας έτσι γνώσεις και εμπειρίες για την Ελληνική παράδοση.
Μια Ελληνική παράδοση που με οδήγησε να ασχοληθώ με το κλαρίνο και τα κρουστά συνοδεύοντας και παίζοντας σε πολλές χορευτικές εκδηλώσεις ως μουσικός εντός και εκτός Ελλάδος.
